Risk Management

The management of risk is performed throughout the whole program. It is not typically a specific process, or effort because effective risk management is inherent in all of the phases and steps. It includes clear communications and organizing as fundamentals. However, there are some areas such as pricing structures, contract terms, service level agreements, preparing all personnel affected by the changes and interfacing with the vendor communities are key elements as well.

The client always wants to shift as much risk to the vendors as they can and the vendors want the client to retain as much risk as possible.

The most important part of risk management is leading the program through experience, relationships and an organized approach to communications.

My experience on both the vendor side of the equation as well as the client side allows me to understand what the real risks are to both sides. This is very valuable when constructing different pieces of the program like collaborative solutioning exercises, contracting and final negotiations.
